Mil ou mille
 
 
Note that “mille” can be written in two ways:  Mil ou mille when it is used for YEARS.
 
Exemples :
 
- Mil huit cent quarante-cinq
- Mille neuf cent quatre-vingt dix-neuf
 
However, the use of  Mil is considered “old” and is not necessary to do. The more commun and current way is Mille.

Among «les nombres cardinaux » (un/une) is the only number that agrees with the gender of the word that is following it. un livre (m.) a/one book une chaise (f.) a/one chair deux livres (m. pl.) two books deux chaises (f. pl.) two chairs trois livres (m. pl.) three books trois chaises (f. pl. ) three chairs 2. Note the spelling of “vingt” in the following cases. There is no “s” for plural when the word is followed by another number. 80 quatre-vingts 81 quatre-vingt-un 82 quatre-vingt-deux 83 quatre-vingt-trois 3. ATTENTION TO THE USE OF A “ - ” (DASH) or “le trait d’union” for numbers. It is important not to omit it. 22 vingt-deux 33 trente-trois 44 quarante-quatre 4. Note the use of the word « et » with the following numbers. In essence, “and one” but this does not continue past eighty. The Use of commas “,” and periods “.” in French is the opposite of English usage. French English quinze virgule six (= 15,6) fifteen point six (=15.6) mille (=1.000) one thousand (=1,000) mille virgule un (=1.000,1) one thousand point one (=1,000.1)
